….and then the sun came out

After a bit of a gloomy week we did what we knew we had to do – get muddy!

Mandy protected the rhubarb and celeriac from the cold. The straw from the greenhouse that was snug around the tomatoes and peppers toes was moved out to guard our loot from the frost.

The first celery of the season was cut and enjoyed, tomatoes picked and beetroot the size of footballs were pulled – oops, as were some weeds.

Getting our groove on

The sunflower heads are the size of dinner plates and stand towering above us – giants of flowers; the hollyhocks look intimidated. Eyes squinting in the sun to look at them. The bees buzzing in and out of the yellow glow.

keeping cool

The sun has shone, the kittens have grown in size and confidence and the garden swing beds have multiplied. The tomatoes taste eye rollingly good, the strawberries are scrumptious and the broad beans are bursting with flavour. It’s all been a bit summery and I love it!

And now the novice is flying solo….. Mandy has gone to England and I’m garden guardian for a whole week. To say Mandy looked nervous would not be an understatement. In fact, she looked like she could do with a paper bag to help her control her breathing.
